After completing a BSc (Hons) Degree in Network Management and Security at the University of Middlesex, I was fortunate to be put forward for the IT Service Desk position at G Research. My previous role was working within an IT Service Desk, however since joining G-Research I have discovered that this is not a traditional service desk. We are supporting and working with cutting-edge technology in a fast-paced environment, making the role both challenging and exciting all the time.
I completed a BSc in Natural Sciences and then went on to do a major in Computer Science at the University of Birmingham. After university, I worked for a large bank but quickly realised I was looking for a more exciting challenge. After speaking to a friend who worked at G-Research, I knew it would be the place for me.
My favourite part of working for G-Research is the great working relationship we have with the people we write software for: it feels like we’re working with them, not for them. I also really enjoy the structure of my working day and the proportion of my time spent writing and designing my own code.
I’m a Mathematician by training, having studied at both undergraduate and for my PhD in Mathematics at Imperial College before becoming a software developer. After a year working in the industry I was approached by a recruiter from G-Research to interview as a developer and I was immediately impressed by the questions they were asking and the high standards that they set for all of their employees.
G-Research has been able to bring together and invest in a variety of backgrounds and expertise to form a friendly culture that seeks to push boundaries wherever possible. They want the people working for them to be the best, which not only means hiring the best candidates but also investing in continued learning and support to keep us at the forefront of our ever-changing industry. For me, that desire to invest in new ideas and embrace new technologies as they continuously evolve is one of the main things that makes G-Research such an exciting place to work.
I graduated from the University of Milan with both a BSc in Systems and Computer Networks Security and an MSc in Information Security. Having had experience in a number of smaller companies, I was looking for an environment that combined security and research. This was when I came across G-Research. I applied and was hired shortly after as a Security Analyst.
After only a few months, I can say that G-Research really values security. The quality of the investigations and analysis is a priority for the Security division, which is why G-Research is always investing in external training and internal education.
I completed my BSc in Mathematics at Royal Holloway then went to do a Masters in Information Security. I joined G-Research as an Information Security Administrator and after several months, I had the opportunity to move into the Information Access Management team as an analyst. From day one I’ve been exposed to a range of information security tools, providing me valuable experience that I might not have had elsewhere.
G-Research does a lot to make us feel valued as employees and provide plenty of events to build relationships with different teams, ranging from weekly running clubs to company organised weekends away.
After completing an LLB at the College of Law, I worked as a Low Latency Market Data Engineer on the sell-side for an Investment Bank before moving to an Electronic Brokerage firm.
I was first made aware of G-Research when I was headhunted by a recruiter who informed me that they were hiring. I chose to apply because of the diverse nature of the role on offer. It was quite rare to find a role in Market Data that combined both commercial and technical elements so I, therefore, thought this would be a good place to expand my experience and career. Once in the interview stage, it was the ambition of the firm communicated to me by senior management that helped me make my decision to work at G-Research.
I graduated from the University of Southampton with a MEng in Software Engineering, achieving a First Class with Honours. After University, I began working for a start-up where they really valued the company culture. Work culture therefore became an important aspect for me, so when I was contacted by G-Research I discovered a company where I could grow as a developer, whilst feeling like the company valued me as a person, not just a code monkey.
The atmosphere at G-Research is really friendly and it’s apparent that company genuinely respects its employees and their time. There’s a lot of little touches like the company buying in food for board games and offering lieu time if you do training or events out-of-hours. It encourages you to grow as a developer without asking you to destroy your social and family life. It’s things like that which make it feel like more than just a place that turns coffee into code and a place that I enjoy coming to work.
Having started my university education in Engineering at MIT, finance didn’t initially seem like an option. But, after a discussion with my peers, I steered my PhD research towards more applied maths topics – positioning myself for a finance role.
There was a lot I didn’t know about the G-Research, so I gained insights from those who interviewed me. They all came across as intelligent, curious, and interested in exploring problems from different angles. I figured if people like this enjoy their jobs then I most certainly will.
And over two years in, there’s nowhere I’d rather be. The atmosphere is very relaxed and, as a quantitative researcher, we can pretty much spend all our time doing what we like the most: finding solutions to interesting and challenging problems. There are no office politics and the performance metrics couldn’t be clearer cut, which is a big motivational factor.
I was looking to move into a pure Information Security role after being a Systems Engineer at a company that made HSMs. G-Research looked like an attractive place to work because they put themselves forward as needing security to protect their core assets – as opposed to security to maintain some arbitrary compliance checklist.
After a few interviews, I was convinced that G-Research was the place I wanted to be. I knew that working alongside the people who conducted the interviews would help me grow professionally. The best part of working at G-Research is the calibre of people that work here. I have learned so much since starting here and have been supported every step of the way, enabling me to pass my CISSP, Certified Incident Handler (GCIH) and Network Forensic Analyst (GNFA) exams.
I completed a BSc in Computer Science that included a year working in Industry as a Systems Administrator for a small software house. Whilst interviewing for the IT Service Desk Analyst role at G-Research, it quickly became apparent that the company offered great progression opportunities.
Over the last four years, I have had the opportunity to work in three different roles across the Production Division, each providing new exciting challenges along the way.
My favourite part of working for G-Research is that technology drives the business; the technology we have at our disposal is what makes the role for me and there’s nowhere I’d rather be.
