HPC Solutions Architect

  • Infrastructure Engineering
  • Dallas

Do you want to tackle the biggest questions in finance with near infinite compute power at your fingertips?

G-Research is a leading quantitative research and technology firm, with offices in London and Dallas.

We are proud to employ some of the best people in their field and to nurture their talent in a dynamic, flexible and highly stimulating culture where world-beating ideas are cultivated and rewarded.

This is a hybrid role based in our new Dallas infrastructure hub where we work on the latest technologies in a cutting-edge environment.

The role

We are seeking a highly experienced HPC Solutions Architect to lead the design and integration of advanced high-performance computing systems, tailored to real-world workload and performance demands.

This is a critical, customer-facing role. You will work closely with external partners and clients to gather detailed technical requirements, analyse performance goals, and translate them into scalable, efficient HPC data centre designs.

You will align complex client workloads across AI and ML, scientific computing, modelling and simulation, with optimally designed compute, storage and network infrastructure.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Collaborating with customers to understand current and future HPC workload requirements

  • Leading technical discovery sessions to assess application performance characteristics, bottlenecks and scalability

  • Designing end-to-end HPC infrastructure solutions, including compute (CPU and GPU), high-speed storage and low-latency

  • Recommending and justifying hardware and software solutions aligned with performance, efficiency and scalability objectives

  • Analysing client workloads and benchmark performance to determine optimal configurations

  • Using profiling tools and workload characterisation methodologies to drive architecture decisions

  • Developing detailed architecture blueprints, BOMs and integration plans for internal engineering and data centre

  • Providing technical guidance during implementation phases and serving as a liaison between external clients and internal infrastructure teams

  • Building and maintaining strong technical partnerships with leading vendors, such as NVIDIA, Cisco and VAST to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into our platforms

  • Influencing vendor roadmaps through feedback, joint initiatives and technology evaluations

  • Staying current on HPC technologies, processor and accelerator trends, interconnects and data centre best practices.

  • Collaborating with architecture, engineering, product and operations teams to refine and evolve the HPC offerings based on real-world feedback

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking an experienced HPC Solutions Architect who combines deep technical expertise in HPC systems with excellent communication and client
engagement skills.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field, with demonstrable experience in HPC solution architecture, systems engineering or a similar domain

  • Deep expertise in HPC infrastructure, including CPUs, GPUs, high-density compute architectures and high-speed networking such as InfiniBand, RDMA and RoCE

  • Proven experience designing HPC clusters and parallel computing environments, with strong proficiency in Linux kernel tuning, system-level optimisations and performance profiling

  • Strong understanding of distributed and parallel file systems and storage technologies, such as VAST, Lustre, Ceph and GPFS

  • Hands-on experience with HPC workload schedulers and orchestration tools, such as Armada, Slurm, PBS and Kubernetes-based environments

  • Demonstrated success working directly with clients to capture technical requirements and deliver tailored, scalable system designs across AI/ML, scientific computing, CFD and genomics workloads

  • Familiarity with open-source collaboration and containerised HPC environments, such as Singularity and Kubernetes, alongside relevant certifications in architecture, networking or systems, like AWS, CCNP and RHCE)

Why should you apply?

  • Market-leading compensation plus annual discretionary bonus

  • Lunch provided in the office (via GrubHub)

  • Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance

  • Excellent paid time off allowance of 25 days

  • Sick days, military leave, and family and medical leave

  • Generous 401(k) plan

  • 16-weeks’ fully paid parental leave

  • Medical and Prescription, Dental, and Vision insurance

  • Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance

  • Employee Assistance and Wellness programs

  • Generous relocation allowance and support

  • Great selection of office snacks, and hot and cold drinks

  • Free on-site gym and car parking
