Linux Engineer

  • Infrastructure Engineering
  • London

We tackle the most complex problems in quantitative finance, by bringing scientific clarity to financial complexity.

From our London HQ, we unite world-class researchers and engineers in an environment that values deep exploration and methodical execution - because the best ideas take time to evolve.  Together we’re building a world-class platform to amplify our teams’ most powerful ideas.

As part of our engineering team, you’ll shape the platforms and tools that drive high-impact research - designing systems that scale, accelerate discovery and support innovation across the firm.

Take the next step in your career.

The role

We’re seeking a Linux Engineer to build, maintain and evolve the Linux platforms (RHEL and Ubuntu) that underpin our compute environment.

You will work across the full Linux stack — from OS builds and provisioning systems through to observability, security and custom tooling — ensuring the platform is consistent, scalable and secure.

This role offers the opportunity to develop deep technical expertise in Linux internals, automation frameworks and performance optimisation while contributing directly to the infrastructure that powers cutting-edge quantitative research.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Building, releasing and maintaining core Linux OS images (RHEL and Ubuntu)

  • Developing and operating provisioning and lifecycle management systems, such as PXE boot, kickstart, cloud-init and image management

  • Designing, implementing and maintaining APIs, databases and package tooling used across the firm

  • Applying Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices, primarily using Ansible, to standardise and automate deployments

  • Integrating CI/CD pipelines to automate OS build and release workflows

  • Implementing Linux security initiatives, including baseline hardening, patch pipelines and compliance automation

  • Improving observability and telemetry to track OS health, provisioning and compliance

  • Troubleshooting and resolving issues across Linux builds, provisioning systems and platform services

  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to integrate features, performance improvements and security updates

  • Continuously enhancing the reliability, performance and scale of the Linux platform

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems, particularly RHEL and Ubuntu

  • Deep knowledge of Linux internals, such as boot process, kernel modules, filesystems and package management

  • Experience with kernel optimisation and performance tuning, such as  scheduler, memory and I/O

  • Knowledge of eBPF for observability, performance analysis and security enforcement is a strong plus

  • Strong scripting and automation skills, for example in Python or Bash

  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Ansible) and DevOps practices

  • Familiarity with provisioning technologies, including PXE, kickstart, cloud-init and image management

  • A clear understanding of Linux security concepts, including hardening, patching and compliance

  • Experience building API-driven services, package tooling or database-backed systems

  • Problem-solving mindset with strong collaboration skills

Why should you apply?

  • Highly competitive compensation plus annual discretionary bonus

  • Lunch provided (via Just Eat for Business) and dedicated barista bar

  • 30 days’ annual leave

  • 9% company pension contributions

  • Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance

  • Comprehensive healthcare and life assurance

  • Cycle-to-work scheme

  • Monthly company events
