We tackle the most complex problems in quantitative finance, by bringing scientific clarity to financial complexity.

From our London HQ, we unite world-class researchers and engineers in an environment that values deep exploration and methodical execution - because the best ideas take time to evolve.  Together we’re building a world-class platform to amplify our teams’ most powerful ideas.

Every breakthrough is built on strong foundations. In our Enterprise Infrastructure team, you’ll work across disciplines to drive the strategy, culture and structure that enable our success.

The role

Location: London (On-site)
Placement dates: 13th July 2026 – 16th July 2027
Working hours: 09:00–17:30

This is a unique opportunity for a student currently undertaking a sandwich degree in Computer Science, Computer Systems, Cyber Security, Networking or a related field, to spend a year embedded in a high-performance engineering environment.

You will join our Network and Security Engineering team, responsible for supporting and maintaining G-Research’s enterprise and global data centre network. Working alongside experienced network engineers, you will gain hands-on exposure to enterprise and data centre infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on monitoring, automation, and incident response.

This role offers real responsibility and the chance to contribute to the operational stability and efficiency of our core network systems, while developing skills across areas such as routing, tooling, automation, and infrastructure operations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring the health and performance of the network infrastructure
  • Investigating and responding to alerts and live incidents
  • Troubleshooting hardware and software issues, in collaboration with vendors
  • Managing connectivity and service provider issues
  • Handling support tickets and change requests
  • Assisting with the implementation of new interconnects
  • Improving operational tooling using technologies such as Arista CloudVision, Prometheus, Victoria metrics and Grafana
  • Performing maintenance tasks to help ensure system compliance.
  • Automating processes with tools such as Python, Ansible, Git and Jenkins

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for students with strong foundational technical knowledge and a genuine interest in network engineering. You should be studying a degree that includes a placement year and be on track to graduate in 2029. You’ll be naturally curious, comfortable solving problems, and motivated to work in a fastpaced, high-performance technical environment.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A placement year as part of a relevant degree programme (e.g. Computer Science,
  • Cyber Security, Networks)
  • An understanding of switching and routing concepts
  • A structured and organised approach to work
  • Strong communication skills and a team-first mindset
  • Motivation to learn new technologies and contribute meaningfully to the team
  • Progress toward certifications such as CCNA or Network+ (advantageous but not essential)

Please note: Due to our focus on developing future talent, this opportunity is only open to candidates graduating in 2029. Applications will be reviewed from September, with interviews starting in October.
