The role

Dates: 13 July 2026 – 16 July 2027

This is an exciting opportunity for a university student studying Cyber Security to join our CSIRT First Response team as part of their industrial placement year.

You’ll join a fast-paced, technically advanced security team that supports a broad range of systems across multiple locations.. The role sits within our corporate IT function, where the First Response team provides frontline cyber security detection and response capabilities to the business.

Over the year, you’ll gain first-hand experience investigating security alerts and incidents, and supporting senior team members across areas like threat intelligence, detection engineering, forensics and malware analysis. You’ll work closely with experienced security engineers and be paired with a mentor to help you learn and grow within the role.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Acting as the first point of contact for cyber security matters within the business

  • Investigating security alerts across a range of systems and platforms, including Windows, Linux, Kubernetes and cloud environments

  • Leading the triage and coordination of security incidents raised across the organisation

  • Conducting threat hunting across a large, centralised data lake

  • Using threat intelligence sources to enhance and tune existing detection capabilities

  • Working with our internally developed interface backed by SIEM tools from Azure, Elastic and AWS

This is a full-time role based in London with core hours from 09:00–17:30, Monday to Friday.

Who are we looking for?

We’re seeking a motivated and capable student currently enrolled in a Cyber Security degree programme with a placement (sandwich) year, graduating in 2028.

This role is ideally suited to individuals who want hands-on exposure to enterprise cyber security operations and the chance to work closely with experienced professionals on real-world issues.

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • A strong interest in cyber security with a solid technical foundation

  • A proactive, methodical approach to problem solving

  • Good communication skills and the ability to support internal users with professionalism and clarity

  • Strong organisational skills and a desire to learn quickly in a fast-moving environment

  • A predicted grade of 2:1 or above

  • Successful applicants at CV stage will be invited to complete a technical assessment

  • Those who pass will attend an assessment centre followed by technical interviews with mentors

  • Applications will be reviewed from September, with interviews starting in October

  • Please note, due to our focus on converting top placement students to graduate roles, we can only consider those graduating in 2028
