Engineering Manager

  • Infrastructure Engineering
  • Dallas

Do you want to tackle the biggest questions in finance with near infinite compute power at your fingertips?

G-Research is a leading quantitative research and technology firm, with offices in London and Dallas.

We are proud to employ some of the best people in their field and to nurture their talent in a dynamic, flexible and highly stimulating culture where world-beating ideas are cultivated and rewarded.

This is a hybrid role based in our new Dallas infrastructure hub where we work on the latest technologies in a cutting-edge environment.

The role

We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to lead our Internal Developer Platform team across our US and UK sites.

The Internal Developer Platform team sits within the HPC Developer Experience group, which is responsible for infrastructure orchestration across platform. The group is foundational to how research and engineering happens at G-Research.

We design, build, operate and support the products that enable the rest of the organisation, shaping how engineers interact with services and infrastructure to build, ship and operate solutions.

This is a hands-on role that requires a mix of leadership and technical abilities. You will provide local management and technical oversight, leading by example and demonstrating a deep technical understanding of our platforms and tooling.

You will work in close collaboration with a range of engineering teams to build out our best-in-class platforms and tooling.

Key responsibilities of the role include:

  • Setting the vision, roadmap and success metrics for the internal Backstage-based developer portal, ensuring it accelerates delivery across the firm

  • Managing and growing the Dallas engineering team while fostering an inclusive, high-trust culture

  • Owning the GitOps-driven Infrastructure as Code stack - based on K8s, Terraform and CI/CD - following cloud-native, secure by default, observable and cost-efficient approaches

  • Delivering and maintaining golden path templates, service catalogues and generative tooling that shorten idea-to-production cycles

  • Continuously hunting down developer friction, prioritising fixes and championing best practice to raise engineering velocity across the organisation

  • Partnering with security, SRE and product stakeholders in Dallas and London to keep the platform reliable, compliant and future-proof

  • Embedding fast feedback loops and clear quality gates in build, test and release pipelines

  • Cultivating continuous learning through tech talks, pair programming and knowledge-sharing initiatives

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

  • Proven leadership of a Developer Experience or Platform team at scale, with demonstrable uplifts in engineering velocity

  • Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD, observability tooling and at least one major public cloud provider

  • Successful track record mentoring engineers via structured growth plans

  • Experience operating and extending Backstage, or similar IDPs, and familiarity with ML/LLM workflow requirements

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to influence across disciplines and time zones, aligning Dallas and London delivery

  • Background managing large-scale, high-performance compute environments with secure-by-default design

  • The ability to thrive in a fast-moving, ambiguous environment with a proactive and ownership-driven

  • Willing to travel periodically to London for face-to-face collaboration

Why should you apply?

  • Market-leading compensation plus annual discretionary bonus

  • Lunch provided in the office (via GrubHub)

  • Informal dress code and excellent work/life balance

  • Excellent paid time off allowance of 25 days

  • Sick days, military leave, and family and medical leave

  • Generous 401(k) plan

  • 16-weeks’ fully paid parental leave

  • Medical and Prescription, Dental, and Vision insurance

  • Life and Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D) insurance

  • Employee Assistance and Wellness programs

  • Generous relocation allowance and support

  • Great selection of office snacks, and hot and cold drinks

  • Free on-site gym and car parking
