The role
This role sits within the Basecamp Technology group, providing specialised engineering capabilities and scalable components to our Research and Trade Technology groups. You will design, build and operate scalable solutions that improve the developer and research experience across the organisation.
As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the strategy, design and delivery of critical engineering and research-facing systems. You will guide and grow a team of talented engineers working closely with stakeholders to build out our best-in-class tooling.
We operate an advanced systematic client trading platform. Its systems are fully automated, globally distributed and operate at extreme scale, executing millions of trades per day. Ensuring platform resilience, uptime and operational efficiency is mission-critical.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Leading the team responsible for enabling quantitative researchers to efficiently utilise a large-scale compute estate
- Setting technical direction and overseeing systems that simplify running workloads across large-scale compute farms, ensuring reliability and scalability
- Owning the strategy and evolution of the scheduling platform (F#) and its Python/.NET interfaces, the primary tools used by researchers
- Guiding the development of real-time observability tooling, such as TypeScript/React, F#, ASP.NET and Postgres on Kubernetes, to provide clear visibility into workload execution

The ideal candidate will have the following experience:
- Experience leading teams building distributed, high-performance or compute-intensive systems
- Familiarity with research or data-driven workflows
- Experience delivering reliable, scalable production systems
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work closely with researchers and technical stakeholders
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
