We tackle the most complex problems in quantitative finance by bringing scientific clarity to financial complexity.
From our London HQ, we unite world-class researchers and engineers in an environment that values deep exploration and methodical execution - because the best ideas take time to evolve. Together we’re building a world-class platform to amplify our teams’ most powerful ideas.
Every breakthrough is built on strong foundations. In our BICA team, you’ll work across disciplines to drive the strategy, culture and structure that enable our success.

The role
This is not a compliance or checkbox-driven role. You will work alongside the engineers who build the platform, focused on the controls that stop a bad day becoming a catastrophic one.
Success in this role is not just verifying existing controls. It is about identifying what could go wrong, uncovering gaps and ensuring the right controls are in place before issues arise.
The role suits someone who combines technical depth with commercial awareness. You will be comfortable moving between low-level system detail and broader discussions about risk, control effectiveness and risk appetite, working with both engineers and senior stakeholders.
Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Building a deep understanding of platform controls, including pre-trading protections, limits, throttles, and data integrity checks
- Working with engineers to map the system architecture, understand control coverage and identify gaps
- Reviewing platform and infrastructure changes, assessing control effectiveness and challenging weak safety cases
- Stress-testing existing risk scenarios and identifying new failure modes, control gaps and emerging risks
- Running pre-mortems on significant changes and translating incidents and near-misses into actionable improvements
- Evaluating software delivery controls, including deployment safety testing, change management and rollback processes
- Validating that documented controls exist, operate as intended and remain aligned to risk
- Using AI tooling, telemetry and modern data analysis to identify non-obvious risks and strengthen control frameworks
- Translating complex technical findings into clear, evidence-based recommendations for engineering and leadership teams
- Driving post-incident learning and continuous improvement across controls, processes and platform resilience
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Deep experience with algorithmic trading controls, including pre-trade risk, kill switches, limits, data integrity and deployment safety in production environments
- Strong understanding of low-latency systems, order flow and exchange connectivity
- Ability to identify novel failure modes and reason about complex systems from first principles
- Sound judgement, balancing risk, performance and commercial considerations
- Ability to form and defend practical, evidence-based views in ambiguous situations
- Are comfortable working without a playbook — different venues, different asset classes, novel failure modes
- Strong communication skills with the credibility to influence both engineers and senior stakeholders
- Strong analytical background in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, Maths or a related discipline
This role is best suited to someone who prefers understanding systems, analysing evidence and forming independent conclusions over relating solely on process or policy.
