This role is based in our headquarters and home to our Research Lab, the new Soho Place office opened in 2023 in the heart of Central London.
The role
G-Research is going through an exciting period of growth and transforming the way we run and build platforms. As part of our transformation, we are looking for an exceptional engineering leader to head our Edge Trade Technology function – a key pillar of our Trade Technology division.
This role reports directly into the Head of Trade Technology and offers the opportunity to shape and evolve a high-impact team that defines where the Trading Platform meets the world. This includes the teams in charge of the Edge Compute (Colos, including FPGAs) and connectivity with Brokers and Exchanges (Feed Handlers, Order Entry).

Key responsibilities of the role include:
- Defining and executing the long-term strategy for the Edge Trade Technology engineering function
- Leading and evolving a high-performing engineering organisation, including multiple experienced managers
- Shaping the future of our colo estate, including its design and deployment at scale, to provide the best possible platform to deploy and monetise Research and Engineering ideas on multiple time horizons including Ultra Low Latency
- Building and maintaining robust systems to maximise the stability and resiliency of the trading platform even as it scales dramatically, with observability, reliability and operational control at its core
- Developing and embedding best-in-class DevOps and SRE practices
- Acting as a key partner and sparring peer to Research and our customer’s Front Office and Back Office teams, bridging deep technical insight with applied domain understanding
- Owning the function’s roadmap, headcount and budget, adapting priorities in line with strategic and technical developments
- Contributing to the strategic direction of G-Research’s broader engineering and compute estate, helping define how our infrastructure enables long-term competitive edge
- Building and maintaining effective external/industry knowledge and networks
Who are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:
- Strong operations and product mindset, with hands-on experience designing and running distributed systems and platforms in production at scale, ideally in the finance space
- Experience managing vendors and partners in complex business environments (ideally in the trading space: brokers, exchanges, market data providers), with the ability to engage tactically and strategically to influence joint delivery and roadmap alignment
- Deep practical experience in DevOps and SRE practices
- Proven track record of people leadership, including developing leaders of leaders, and scaling high-functioning technical organisations
- Proven track record of effective stakeholder management and ability to influence in complex, cross-functional environments
- Strong operations and product mindset, with hands-on experience running distributed systems and platforms in production at scale, ideally but not necessarily in the finance space
- Demonstrate clear, strategic thinking, with the ability to map industry trends to technical roadmaps, drive change and align teams to a compelling vision
- Commercial approach to business delivery and results
- Skilled communicator across all levels in the organisation, with the ability to flex communication approach according to the audience/situation
- Experience in developing high performance teams
