Each month, we provide up to £2,000 in grant money to early career researchers in quantitative disciplines.
Our aim is to support and assist PhD students and postdocs conducting research, particularly with costs that may be difficult to get funding for elsewhere, for example, travel for those who are caring for children, or expenses for volunteer work related to research.
Read on to hear from our latest winners, their research and how our grants will aid their work.
March grant winners
Vincent Pauline (Technical University of Munich)

“I am a first-year PhD student at TUM and Helmholtz AI, and an MCML Junior Fellow supervised by Prof. Dr. Stefan Bauer.
“My research focuses on the mathematical foundations of generative modelling, especially diffusion models for discrete data and more efficient, controllable language generation.
“The G-Research grant will support my research stay at the University of Edinburgh with Dr. Nikolay Malkin, where I will study the fine-tuning and alignment of discrete diffusion models.”
Andreu Moll Morera (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya)

“I am an undergraduate student pursuing a double degree in engineering physics and mathematics at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya.
“I completed my bachelor’s thesis at the CERN Quantum Technology Initiative, where I worked on quantum computing applications for high-energy physics, focusing in particular on amplitude calculations in quantum chromodynamics.
“Next year, I will join the Oxford MSc in Quantum Technologies, where I aim to further develop my expertise in quantum computing and continue building a research career in this field.
“Support such as the G-Research grant will allow me to further deepen my involvement in quantum technologies, for instance by enabling research visits and continued engagement with ongoing projects. I am very enthusiastic about this opportunity.”
Congratulations to all of our grant winners.
