Interested in learning more about what life is like at G-Research in Dallas? Hear from Michael Willingham, one of our DevSecOps Engineers, as he discusses Tech, People and Culture.
My journey with G-Research started just as the Dallas office opened up, when I joined the DevSecOps team.
In DevSecOps, our mission is to:
- Reduce the time between exposure to a security issue and the identification and resolution of that issue
- Increase the coverage of security related testing
- Increase the efficiency and effectiveness of security related testing.
We solve large-scale problems, which occur in an environment with a high-rate of change; it’s challenging and requires a level of adaptability, especially in a new global office.
Fortunately, there is a range of support in place, as well as people and initiatives, which enable us to succeed.
Tech
G-Research places a high value on being near the edge of the latest technologies and the best thing for me about working here is the access I have to a wide range of technology.
I enjoy working with cloud native tools, like Kubernetes, ArgoCD and Backstage, and I am able to utilise these tools in the work I deliver.
Because there is a lot of change within the business as it continues its growth plans, there is also a necessity to continue to learn. Since joining, the business has been incredibly supportive in my pursuit of relevant certifications and attending tech conferences, helping me to expand my knowledge of new technologies further.
People
A great tech stack and tooling would mean relatively little without the right people using them and the good news is that from day one you are immersed into a group of people that are driven, smart and approachable.
My direct managers genuinely care about my career progression and well-being, and have been a steady source of wise advice and encouragement.
Collaboration and culture
As a DevSecOps Engineer, I work across lots of different parts of the business, which means I collaborate often with colleagues in the US and in the UK.
Everyone I have interacted with, including leadership, has been highly approachable over video call or chats, and through initiatives like our Engineering School, we are given a clearer indication of where our work fits into the larger picture.
The context of how and where we fit in is extremely beneficial. G-Research was fairly new to working internationally when I joined and there has been plenty of learning on both sides of the pond, but overall, G-Research has been consistently improving in this area since I’ve joined.
G-Research in Dallas
Dallas was essentially a blank slate culturally, and our leadership team has been working hard to grow in this area!
Our shared time in the office has been quite collaborative so far, and we are starting to enjoy quality social events outside of work together.
It is an exciting opportunity to be in on the ground floor, especially as G-Research is ambitious in its Dallas expansion – you will have an opportunity to have a strong impact on the formation and development of our culture here in the US.If you can navigate change, enjoy a good challenge, and want to solve large-scale problems with the latest technology – this is the place to be.
