Quantitative Engineering
A critical team within G-Research, Quantitative Engineers work alongside our world-class Quantitative Researchers to help facilitate and apply the cutting edge work we undertake.
Engineering and Mathematical Excellence
Acting as a conduit between the engineering and research divisions, Quantitative Engineers have a direct impact on the business’ performance, translating features and ideas into tangible projects and platform developments.
Our Quantitative Engineers undertake work such as applying novel machine learning ideas to our datasets using our in-house compute farm; adding new features to open source machine learning packages; and applying numerical methods to compute solutions to quants’ mathematical models in a latency-sensitive environment.

World-Class Colleagues, Cutting-Edge Problems
Being part of the Quantitative Engineering team gives you the chance to exercise technical expertise in relation to challenging, cutting-edge mathematical problems. You will be working with and supporting some of the brightest quantitative researchers in their fields, utilising and developing a world-class proprietary platform.
Interview Process
Joining From Abroad
G-Research is proud to recruit some of the best talent from across the world. If you are joining us from abroad, we work with a specialist relocation partner to ensure that starting your new life in the United Kingdom is as easy and frictionless as possible. Find out more.
I completed a BMath at the University of Waterloo with specialisations in Statistics, Computational Mathematics, and Combinatorics. During that time I undertook internships in a wide variety of areas: actuarial, academic, software engineering, and quantitative research. I learnt that a quant research role was a fantastic union of all my developed interests in maths, statistics, programming, finance, and research. As someone who naturally loves to solve many problems, being involved in a space that has a wide variety of unsolved challenges is a huge plus.
Having never been to Europe prior to interviewing, G-Research was incredibly accommodating during both the interviewing and onboarding process. Interview expectations were made crystal clear, and visa and immigration matters were addressed swiftly and professionally.
Every day, I wake up with confidence that I will learn something new. I work with some of the smartest, nicest people in the world who are always eager to engage in collaborative discussions. Everyone here is driven and motivated, and that kind of environment is inspiring! G-Research manages to achieve all this while prioritising and fostering a strong work-life balance and company culture.
I was two years into my BA in Computer Science at Cambridge when I first joined G-Research as an Software Developer Intern. I then came back to G-Research after I finished my degree, returning to the data development division as a Software Developer.
I first came across G-Research at a careers fair, where I was looking for something to fill my summer and get some valuable experience. After interning here for three months I knew that I wanted to come back.
I love the fact everyone continues to learn and adapt with the changes in technology. You have the ability to try out new technologies and find the best fit for each application. The company is also very sociable, with monthly company drinks, a summer party, and socials throughout the year, which is a great way to meet other people around the company. This creates a very friendly work environment.
I studied Computer Science at the University of Bristol and while studying made sure all my summers were filled with internships. This included one at a development house building React Native apps and one here at G-Research writing C# internal applications within the real-time platform group.
I was offered a permanent role at G-Research on graduation and now work in a small team improving trading platform technology.
The people here are great, the challenges are great, and the company is at a size where I can feel noticed. Everyone is so intelligent but I am never afraid to ask questions. This has enabled me to grow rapidly as a developer, while also having the time and space to work on my own personal projects.
Before joining G-Research, I completed an Applied Mathematics PhD at Oxford, where I worked on modelling flows of customers inside supermarkets (in collaboration with Tesco). As a Senior Quantitative Researcher, I work on producing forecasts of market returns using mathematical models and various data feeds.
The two biggest things that I like about working at G-Research are the smart and incredibly friendly colleagues, as well as being able to strike a really good work-life balance (in contrast to a lot of the finance industry).
In 2014 I completed a master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from Instituto Superior Tecnico, Lisbon. After moving to London, I quickly discovered my passion for coding and transitioned to a programming role, developing optimisation software for the chemical industry.
I joined G-Research in 2019 and couldn’t have made a better decision. Working as part of such an incredibly talented team has been extremely rewarding; in particular I am constantly impressed by the drive for excellence that lies behind everything we do. This motivates me to deliver my best work and to focus on always improving. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed and Engineers are given the support they need to be fully productive.
Before G-Research I’d completed internships at a few companies whilst studying Computer Science at the University of York. Since joining, I’ve progressed from an intern to a graduate to an engineer, having worked on systems and technology core to the business my entire time.
I currently work developing one of our core platforms which is used by our researchers every day. This involves writing code for new applications and features, providing support for and extending our current systems, and working with the rest of the team to help define our future architecture.
I think what makes G-Research stand out is how everyone works together across all teams to achieve our goals; everyone, no matter how new, can make a difference to the business.
I studied Computer Network Management and Design at the University of Portsmouth, following this I worked at a small UK hosting company for several years, running their OpenStack-based public cloud platform. I’ve been at G-Research since 2018 and have been solely focused on engineering and operating an internal compute platform based on open-source software.
My favourite thing about working at G-Research is the people. G-Research strives to hire not only the brightest minds, but good people, which in turn creates a brilliant collegiate and social atmosphere at the company.
During my placement at G-Research I have had the pleasure of working as a Windows Operations Analyst, a role which has enabled me put in practice the theories I have learnt throughout my Computing degree at the University of Kent.
My role involves building virtual and physical workstations and servers which have been used by a variety of different teams for a vast number of purposes.
I was certain that I wanted to apply to G-Research when I heard about the high standard the company works toward, as well as the encouraging learning environment it provides. For me, it’s important to work for a company that is always looks to push the limits of what they can achieve: I always like to be challenged.
Beyond the professionalism and ambition here, what I love about G-Research is the supportive network and its community values. This ensures that each employee’s contributions are appreciated and we all enjoy socialising together.
I attended the University of Plymouth, where I studied Computing and Information Security. During my degree I completed an internship at G-Research, which led to my current role as a Graduate Identity and Access Management Analyst.
Our Identity and Access Management (IAM) team is responsible for defining and maintaining the information access model – a crucial part of a business which revolves around information and data.
Both as an intern and a graduate at G-Research I’m continuously given the opportunity to develop and hone my skills as an effective IAM analyst. I chose to return to G-Research after I graduated for a multitude of reasons; the location, lifestyle, the challenge, the innovation…but most importantly, it’s the expertise, professionalism and kind-natured people that meant I didn’t think twice when offered a permanent job.
I studied Computer Science in Greece followed by an MSc in Software Engineering at Imperial College. Before I joined G-Research I worked at Skype (Microsoft).
My favourite part of working at G-Research is the people, from my colleagues to our customers. The culture is great and encourages collaboration, which makes it easier for everyone to work together. It’s also great to be able to use the latest tech, like Kubernetes and Kafka.
